working with clay on the wheel I am able to explore many aspects of landscape forms that interest me, working with folds in the thrown wall of a bowl, layering glaze washes after a bisque …ridges, valleys, windbreaks, rocks, trees and fields become the energy for my surface treatment. ….and  dots and dashes or a grid, landscape lines and the occasional fishes swimming by.

Current work in the studio is experimenting with using the same glaze over different clay bodies, cobalt oxide used as the medium for painting, rubbing and stamping marks on surfaces.  The variability of firing is an important part of each piece. also sometimes copper is used instead of cobalt,  and over stoneware, a copper glaze dipped over and under other glazes.
