copper green earings
bowled over?
the image doesn’t show the texture of this bowl…a rich satin surface, delicious to hold….water, pools, seaweed , watercolour, layers of loose brushmarks are the essence of these bowls.
Old kilns
these lovely old kilns are in Cessnock, the Hunter Valley….great that this part of our history still exists….that someone has developed around them and not bulldozed them as is often the case…
slow landscape
in the busyness of last week this quiet planter has crept up on me…with all the jostling for attention of all the pieces that came out of the kiln this one just waited til I was ready to notice him!! soft slow green hills misty tree clusters.
green landscape
green landscape beaker out of the kiln this week….on a favourite little bolt and lump of wood that I can’t seem to throw away!
stoneware fish bowl
different response from cobalt over ironstone clay…more grey and muted…I love it !
Colour of drying
Damp weather is slowing drying of thrown planters…from a rich Terra cotta when wet to a light rose colour when really dry….am warming the studio to dry off last pots ready for a bisque
Indigo shibori
swapping from the blue of cobalt oxide to the dyeing blue of indigo… beautiful still sunny morning for it!
when the fabric comes from the vat first it is bright green, the oxidising process and solar energy/sunshine turn it slowly blue…. a variety of blues come from fabric, age of vat and the length of time left in….all as addictive as firing a kin !!
Here fishy !
within the space of a week to have both of my kilns out of action, and lots of work to be fired, I was giving my blood pressure a workout!! the electric kiln wouldn’t turn on and the control box said ‘Error’ …. but this morning I repacked the glost and we’re back in business. Woodrow kiln’s hunch was the thermocouple…a credit card and Aus Post enabled us to connect it this morning! The Gas kiln it turned out also had thermocouple issues (via old age) and an hour later I paid the young electrician on his phone and continued working in the studio !!
